CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Plenary talks by Keren D. Rice (University of Toronto), Wayan Arka (Australian National University/Udayana University), and Larry Kimura (University of Hawaii at Hilo)
  • Special invited colloquia - The Use of Film in Language Documentation (Organizers: Rozenn Milin and Melissa Bisagni); Grammaticography (Organizer: Sebastian Nordhoff); and Colloquium on Dictionaries and Endangered Languages: Technology, Revitalization, and Collaboration (Organizer: Sarah Ogilvie)
  • Opening reception (Friday evening) - Join us for light hors d'oeuvres, drinks, entertainment, and welcoming speeches.
  • Optional pre-conference technical workshops (February 9-10) organized by Nicholas Thieberger (University of Hawai‘i at Manoa) - Pre-conference workshops will be an additional $20/workshop. The number of spaces available per workshop will be limited and can be signed up for via the conference registration form, available in September. Workshop offerings will include Flex; Elan; Advanced Toolbox; Psycholinguistic techniques for the assessment of language strength; Video/film in langdoc; LEXUS and VICOS - lexicon and conceptual spaces; Archiving challenges and metadata; and Language acquisition for revitalization specialists
  • He ‘Olelo Ola, A Living Hawaiian Language: Strategies in Action (February 14-15) - More details on this optional post-conference field study in Hilo will be posted in September. Registration for the field trip will be $175. [NOTE: For those unfamiliar with Hawai‘i, the conference will be in Honolulu on the island of O‘ahu.  The Field Study will be in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawai‘i. Those planning to attend the optional Field Study will need to arrange their interisland flight to and their hotel in Hilo, in addition to their flight to and lodging in Honolulu.]
