Grew up in the Midwest and New England. High school exchange student in Costa Rica as a teenager. Returned to Costa Rica after completing undergraduate work and began teaching. Based in New York for fifteen years before coming to Hawai‘i in 1991. Fulbright in Yugoslavia '87-'88. Have conducted teacher development activities for Peace Corps, School for International Training, Department of State, and other organizations in Europe, Asia, Africa, the former Soviet Union, and the Pacific.
