Mary Hammond was a member of the NFRC Board in 2010-2014. She oversees the student scholarship programs at the East-West Center, where each year, nearly 500 students from more than 50 countries participate in Center programs while pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree study. Before joining the Center, her positions in international education included teaching and administering English language and teacher training programs at Harvard University, the University of Southern California, the University of Hawaiʻi, and Hawaiʻi Pacific University, as well as administrative positions in university international admissions, recruitment, and institutional partnerships. She spent her childhood in Japan, taught in China for two years, and was a Fulbright grantee at Istanbul Technical University. Her interests include second language acquisition, language policy, and intercultural communication. She received her M.A. in teaching English as a second language from the University of Washington.
