Multilingual Career Development Day

Each spring, the Roadmap partners with businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to hold a Multilingual Career Development Day on the campus of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. The event includes speakers, a Multilingual Career Fair, and opportunities for students to explore their multilingualism and demonstrate their language proficiency.

The event is specially tailored as a resource for students who have applied for the Hawai‘i State Seal of Biliteracy.

Our spring 2024 Multilingual Career Development Day will be held in the UH-Mānoa Campus Center Ballroom on Wednesday, April 3rd. Please contact us at Roadmap@hawaii.edu to be informed of details about the event.

This event is open to all students who have applied for the Seal of Biliteracy (and students with equivalent qualifications whose additional language(s) do not yet have a proficiency test available) throughout the state of Hawai’i, so if you are a teacher interested in your students participating please email us, or click here for the registration link.

The Hawai’i Language Roadmap produces and participates in a number of events each year to promote the eight initiatives in the Roadmap document.  In addition, to producing biennial Roadmap symposia, the Roadmap conducts outreach at career fairs and culture days, and makes invited presentations to classrooms, educational and business organizations, conferences and other venues.

In 2018, the Roadmap began conducting an annual Multilingual Career Development Day for State of Hawai’i DOE students who had applied to earn the Seal of Biliteracy.  The third annual Multilingual Career Development Day was to be held on March 25, 2020, but was cancelled owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.  In lieu of the learning opportunities provided by this event, the Roadmap prepared a Student Resources Booklet, which, in collaboration with the Hawai’i DOE, was provided to all Seal of Biliteracy honorees from the Class of 2020. The fourth annual Multilingual Career Development Day was held as a virtual event in March 2021. In 2022, we were back in person with a record number of participants, and this year promises to be another memorable event.
