What can SLA Theory Contribute to Realizing the Potential of Technology for Supporting the Learning of LCTLs?

Technology use in language learning is typically motivated by claims of its pedagogical effectiveness. Without challenging those claims, I believe that we must develop a better understanding of the intellectual - i.e., theoretical -basis for technology use if it is to have the impact that it should have not only on our students but on the discipline and on higher education.
