What is a typical daily schedule like for Korean international students?

Task Description:

Students watch a video from Youtube, illustrating a busy daily schedule of a Korean international student who could not even eat properly due to exams and class assignment. After watching the video, they respond to questions on a worksheet based on the video they have watched.

Interview Questions

Students prepare for interviews with a student club leader and Korean international students to find out how student clubs can reach out to Korean international students.

Task Description:

In a group, students design interview questions that they will ask in meeting with a leader of student club and Korean international students. Interview questions for a student club may be in English or Korean, depending on the nature of the club and language proficiency of the leader. Interview questions for Korean international students must be in Korean.

Guiding Instruction and Rubrics

In order to make expectations clear, instructor provides information for important deadlines and scoring rubrics.

Task Description:

The attached document includes important deadlines for interviews/interview results, script writing, and video production/presentation. In addtion, scoring rubrics for each component of project are introduced in the guide. As a follow-up, instructor sends out reminder of task deadlines via e-mail as well as in class.

Peer Feedback and Self-Reflection

Students reflect on their project including their collaboration with a student club and provide feedback to other groups.

Task Description:

After each group presents a promotional video, learners will assess the final product and provide comments based on the rubric. They will also reflect on their project process and outcome and share their ideas with the class.

Formative Assessment: Interview Questions

In a group, learners prepare interview questions in Korean (to interview Korean international students) and in English (to interview a student club leader) and receive feedback from the instructor.

Task Description:

As a formative assessment, students submit their questions to ask Korean native speakers using Google Doc. The instructor provides them with feedback on language, e.g., accuracy and clarity. Students then revise their questions and conduct interviews.

Audio files and written summaries of interviews are assessed based on the rubric.

Task Description:

As a group, learners interview Korean native speakers in Korean and a student club leader in English. Each task is assessed according to the criteria of the rubric provided prior to the interviews.

Learners submit an audio file and summaries of interviews using Google Drive. Learners can choose to video-record their interviews with the consent of interviewees.  

They can use their smart phone or an audio/video recording tool from the course website.

Script Writing

In a group, learners write a script for a promotional video and receive feedback from the instructor.

Task Description:

For one class session, students will discuss and write the outline of their promotional video with assistance of the instructor, when necessary. Outside of the classroom, they will complete the script and submit the 1st draft using Google Doc. The script will be assessed according to the criteria of the scoring rubric provided at the beginning of the project. The instructor will provide written feedback and scores using Google Doc.

Presentation of a Promotional Video

Learners present their promotional video for their select student club.

Task Description:

Each group of learners presents a promotional video in class, which will be assessed by the instructor and peers based on the rubric provided at the beginning of the project.
