CONFERENCE PUBLICATION

PLL 12 CALL FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS

SUBMISSION DEADLINE (EXTENDED): JUNE 30, 2007

Volume 12 of Pragmatics & Language Learning, an externally refereed series published by the National Foreign Language Resource Center, will contain selected papers submitted by conference participants. Conference participants, regardless of whether they presented at the conference, are encouraged to submit a manuscript to be considered for inclusion in this 2008 publication. Your contribution must be original, unpublished work. Papers submitted to the series should not be concurrently submitted elsewhere for publication.

Format manuscripts according to APA style (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, fifth edition). Maximum manuscript length is 9,000 words, including everything - references, appendices, tables, and so forth. Please also include an abstract of no more than 200 words. Send three paper copies of the manuscript and the abstract to:

Please prepare all electronic submissions in Word format. Include all materials (abstract, text, references, tables, figures, transcripts, appendices, etc.) in one single Word file.

Also, include the following contact information for each author on the first page of your manuscript:

A NOTE ABOUT TRANSCRIPTS: If appropriate to the purpose of the study, extended speech should be transcribed according to standard conversation analytic conventions (e.g., Schegloff, E. A. (2007). Sequence organization in interaction. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press). Provide a list with all additional symbols and abbreviations.

To avoid introducing errors during the formatting process, we ask the author to format transcripts, which we then insert into the text as camera-ready elements. Please use the following guidelines for preparing the final submission of all transcripts:

Text area dimensions - The text area for books in the PLL series measures 4 7/8" X 7 1/8". To conform to this format,

Transcripts of languages other than English - Include the original text (plain text, using a Roman alphabet if possible), a gloss translation (in italics), and a prose rendering in English(in italics). Arrange the lines in the following order:

Do not split transcripts into two columns.

Submit transcripts as both Word documents and as PDF files.

All transcripts must include consecutive line numbers.
