Students will explore and interpret the presence of Chinese culture (particularly represented in food) in St. Louis by interviewing international students who are currently studying at the university on their eating habits, visiting Chinese restaurants, groceries and other businesses in Chinatown to find out about the different food choices, and by building connections with organizations and entities who serve the Chinese community to get involved with Chinese culture and language immersion opportunities. Through these activities, students will discover the world cultures in food, and furthermore, reflect upon themselves, their heritages, and the community. Based on their findings, students will establish the belief in healthy and balanced living. Students will present their projects and celebrate their learnings with a big finale--a potluck party with dishes prepared by students themselves and presented to Chinese Immersion School Students and teachers, promoting a healthier diet and the cultural diversity in the community.
