Wed 10/28 You've seen the following letters before; now we're going to finish by writing letters of our own.

§ Review Thank-you Letter #1, Thank-you Letter #2, and Thank-you Letter #3.
Role-play: you need to write a BRIEF thank-you letter for some gifts. Use the 3 letters above as a source, but make yours briefer and more simple. Write your letter and bring it to class for peer editing. Make sure it answers the questions:

What was the occasion of the gift-giving?
What gifts were given to the letter-writer?
How does the letter-writer ritually protest the gift-giving?
How did the letter-writer "use" one of the gifts given?
How does the writer "bid" to end the letter -- "Well, my plane's about to leave" type of
thing?
What is a fancy way to express one's heartfelt thanks?
Can you list three different "wishes" you could use to close a letter? ORIGINAL KEY HERE.(Use "back" button to return here from there)

Thurs 10/29 § Prepare for a quiz on Lesson 5 and on the thank-you letters. Speaking: getting information through an interview, identify the reasons why a given person would advise for or against several majors/professions. Reading: modeled on IC W reading texts or on lesson text itself. Situational language use centering around arguments with parents about majors -- whether they make or lose money, internships, on-job attire, amount of time necessary for grad school. At the rhetorical/discourse level (stringing sentences together), be able to express disagreement and be able to cite a list of reasons why something is good or bad.
Weekend 10/30-11/1 § Listen to and read Lesson 6 lesson text.
