  • My [aunt/uncle/cousins/grandparents/kids] all live in [place].
  • [Place] is a [small town/big city] with a population of [N]. There [is/is not] scenery including [trees/river/hills/lakes]. In the [name a season] there is a [phenomenon]; it's really [comment].
  • The climate in [place] is also [comment]. In the [name a season] you can [name an activity].

§ Read Lesson 22 Dialogue 2.Use the Workbook, L 22 III Section One B (p.117) to check your reading comprehension of the dialogue (even though it says listening).

Wed 9/9 § Write out statements in Chinese for the following, in line with the "brainstorming" we did in class today (Dialogue 2 will prove useful):
  • I guess [name a place] is good enough (use "hao3 shi4 hao3"), but I like [name another place] even better.
  • [Preferred place] is [like/unlike] [dispreferred place] in being the capital and the center of government, culture, and economy.
  • The climate of [preferred place] is [the same as/quite different from] [dispreferred place]. [Describe the climate in the four seasons.]

§ Do exercises at the bottom of pg. 193 and 194 in preparation for class.

Thurs 9/10 § TO HAND IN: Rewrite either 9/8's homework or 9/9's homework ENTIRELY IN HANZI as a composition. That means that you should try to connect your statements into a coherent whole with the use of such words as "sui1ran2 (although)...ke3shi4..."; "bu2dan4 (not only)...er2qie3 (but also)..."; "tong2shi2 wo3 jue2de2 (at the same time, I feel)...".
Weekend
9/11-13 § Read Dialogue I of IC T Lesson 23, and be prepared for a vocabulary test on Monday 9/14.
