Mon 4/19 § TONIGHT: Prepare for a quiz on Lesson 16 -- focus on the text and the assignments you have had these past few days. There is no separate Hanzi writing for this test, but you will need to give advice to a Chinese friend about car insurance.

Wed 4/21 § TONIGHT: Prepare answers for IC W L1 (p.3 -- this one is VERY IMPORTANT) and L2 Speaking Exercises (p.14 -- also a very likely topic for the OPI).Keep in mind the following: in the OPI, your rating will be higher if you:
  • take control of the interview by taking the initiative to speak
  • speak in connected strings rather than isolated sentences
  • can narrate, describe and compare
  • can "flourish" rather than merely "surviving" in life situations (food, clothing, shelter, making friends)
Thu 4/22 § TONIGHT: Prepare answers for IC W L3 (p. 25) and L4 (p. 37) Speaking Exercises (except the ones that require you to "make up a dialogue with a speaking partner").
Weekend 4/23-25 § WEEKEND: Prepare answers for IC W L5 (p. 48) and L6 (p. 60) Speaking Exercises (except the ones that require you to "make up a dialogue with a speaking partner").

§ ALSO WEEKEND (sorry!): Compare the following two advertisements for housing, and write a reasoned argument (Hanzi to the greatest extent possible) about why you would choose one over the other. Remember, people have different reasons for wanting different features. We are looking for CONNECTED, REASONED prose, which features words such as "moreover,..." "on the other hand,..." "although...nevertheless..."
