Mon 11/9 § Write a note -- ALL IN HANZI -- to your personal assistant directing him/her to find you a property for rental or purchase. You must specify the following, giving reasons for each desired feature where appropriate.Your note should be addressed to a specific person and properly signed and dated.
  • two features the property must have, and the reasons why (for example: "[the property] must be furnished, because I don't have a bed"; "[the property] must have a garden, because the children need a place to play")
  • two features the property must have, and the reasons why (for example: "[the rent] does not necessarily have to include utilities, because I don't use much electricity"; "[the property] does not necessarily have to be close to a bus stop, because I can drive to school")
  • the maximum purchase price or monthly rent
  • the date you are moving out of your current place, and the date by which you must move into the new
  • grammatical connectors!

§ As a "partner document" to the above, either on the same sheet or on a separate sheet, write out IN ENGLISH three housing ads of the type seen in the Honolulu Weekly or other classifieds. The ads should be fairly rich in descriptors so that we can tell if they might match specifications such as those in your note. ONE of the ads should closely match the specifications you have given to your assistant. Each ad should have a different telephone number to call.

Tues 11/10 § Prepare for a quiz on Lesson 6 and on the current writing/matching assignment and the Web-based reading on Thursday, 11/12.
Wed 11/11 HOLIDAY: VETERANS DAY
Thurs 11/12 § Read and listen to L7 lesson text. Prepare for the usual vocabulary quiz.
Weekend 11/13-15 § To bring to class -- jotted answers to L7 Workbook p. 70 I (Listening Comprehension) B 1,2,3 -- this requires using the workbook tape; p.71 II (Speaking) A1,4,5 (use Pinyin to note things you would say). KEY HERE.
