Fall 2022 NFLRC Graduate Assistant position

    NFLRC Graduate Assistant

    The National Foreign Language Resource Center (NFLRC) in the College of Arts, Languages & Letters (CALL) is seeking a self-starting UH Mānoa graduate student with a keen interest in instructional design, research and development, program management, and event planning. Our graduate assistantships open up opportunities to develop technical, pedagogical and administrative skills working with a dynamic group of language professionals on projects with national impact.

    Duties

    Provide assistance with day-to-day operations and assigned project work of the National Foreign Language Resource Center. Duties include working as part of a team of educators on culture-related materials development and virtual and in-person professional learning offerings (webinars, podcasts, MOOCs, and summer institutes). Additional duties may include maintaining websites and helping to keep an active NFLRC presence in social media. Other duties as requested. NFLRC graduate assistants are expected to keep regular weekly work hours and participate in meetings as requested. Renewal of the position is contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory performance.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Classified graduate status in foreign languages, second language studies, linguistics, educational technology, or related field;
    • Excellent organizational and communication (oral & written) skills;
    • Demonstrated ability to work well on teams as well as independently;
    • Familiarity with basic principles of instructional design; working knowledge of online learning technologies, including web-based course management systems (e.g., Moodle) and content management systems;
    • Working knowledge of Google Apps (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail) and videoconferencing software (e.g., Zoom);
    • Academic interest in language teacher development and world language technology or education; 

    Desirable Qualifications

    • Experience in language materials development and associated technology applications involved;
    • Working knowledge in conducting research (e.g., literature review, data analysis, etc.)
    • Experience organizing and assisting with in-person, online, and hybrid events (e.g., meetings, webinars, workshops, talks, summer institutes, etc.) 
    • Demonstrated ability to design and develop web pages (e.g., WordPress);
    • Familiarity and/or experience with social media technologies (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube);
    • Familiarity and/or experience with image, sound and video editing software;
    • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, reliable, and efficient;
    • Working competency in a language other than English; 

    Working Schedule

    20 hours per week maximum; Monday-Friday; work hours between 8:00am-5:00pm (with some flexibility). 11-month GAships are on duty year round with 21 off-duty days annually.

    Salary Information

    Master’s – $23,028 (step 9); PhD – $23,952 (step 10)

    To begin late September 2022, salary commensurate with degree standing, extension contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory performance.
